The National Fire Service was formed in August 1941 from an amalgamation of the Auxilliary Fire Service and some 1600 local authority brigades. In 1948 the service reverted to county based fire brigades. Here is one of the few remaining vehicles from the NFS. An AFS Austin GLT 604 in Ipswich. 1st May 2011
