Yarmouth South Town
Aerial view of the station area which gives some indication of how extensive the railway facilities once were. The station terminus buildings can be seen along with the goods yard and carriage sidings. The turntable and signal box are also apparent. In the background can be seen the Haven Bridge over the River Yare and the adjacent Hall Quay/South Quay. The road running down to the right of the picture is Station Road. Today nothing of any railway interest remains. The site of the goods yard to the left of Station Road is now retail units with B and M and Lidl stores. The area of the terminal buildings is now a dual carriageway leading to the Haven Bridge known as Pasteur Road (A1243} A very sad end to which was once a very interesting and busy location, and the main station for London trains. The station was severely affected by flooding on 31st January 1953 when the water levels were one foot over the platforms. Date :- c1928. Photographer unknown.
