Bourne
Bourne station on the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway. The photographer is standing at the end of the platform facing east towards Spalding. At the island platform is 4F 2-6-0 43085. To the right is the substantial main goods shed. Above and to the left of the Down platform canopy can be seen the end gable and chimneys of the historic (1605) Red Hall which formed the station approach and once used as the railway booking office. The building is now Grade two listed and exists today. The only other railway related surviving building is the weighbridge office. To the left of the Red Hall is the tower of Bourne Abbey ( St Peter and St Paul ) The station remained open for goods traffic until 5th April 1965.
Image dated 28th February 1959. Last day of passenger services.
