Watton
Watton, Norfolk. Most of the station buildings at Watton have been demolished and an industrial estate now stands where the railway once ran. There are a few remaining railway related buildings. The shot above is of the former Railway Hotel which predates the railway and stands facing what was the station area. The upstairs windows must have given an excellent view of railway operations. The track passed to the left of the building about where the wooden fences are; with crossing gates diagonally across Norwich Road. The Thetford to Swaffham line closed to passenger traffic on 15th June 1964. Many thanks to Chris Hutchings of the Museum 4 Watton, for pointing me in the right direction for remaining artefacts. Image dated 10th April 2016. The railway station and the hotel feature in this short film from 1963. Gives a good insight into how things used to be. http://www.eafa.org.uk/catalogue/213956 Click on film to freeze picture. More details here:- http://historyofwatton.org.uk/railway/
