Mellis
Mellis, Suffolk on the main Ipswich to Norwich line. The view is facing south towards Ipswich. The main 300ft long platforms can be seen and to the right a siding feeding the corn mill in the distance, and Cullum's Maltings. On the Up platform is the rather fine station master's house, constructed by The Eastern Union Railway. Passenger services here were withdrawn on 7th November 1966. Goods already being lost on 28th December 1964.
This was the junction station for the 3 mile branch to the small town of Eye, to the east. Trains left from a curving bay platform behind the main Up main platform (to the left in the picture) Passenger services were withdrawn as early as 2nd February 1931. Freight survived until 13th July 1964.
