Melton Constable
Another view from the B1354 road bridge (to the left from the previous picture) showing the goods yard. Judging by the weeds it is almost certain the shot was taken around the time of closure, probably mid nineteen sixties. In the foreground is the loading dock and to the left, the goods shed which has fortunately survived along with the goods office, and is now home to "The Siding" café /artisan bakery. Behind the goods shed are the houses on Astley Terrace which were built by the M and GN in 1886 to house railway staff. The eastbound starter signals for the lines to Yarmouth and Norwich City can be seen at the end of the six hundred yard long island platform while a few abandoned wagons add to the desolation.
