  • The view North from Mill Road Bridge in Cambridge on 4th May 1980. A Kings Lynn to Liverpool Street working is heading South behind 47170. Coldham Lane signal box can just about be made out in the distance.

  • A Class 105 Cravens two car unit on a Cambridge to Doncaster working passes the footbridge on Stourbridge Common Cambridge in September 1982. On the skyline are the gasometer and pumping station chimney off Newmarket Road.

  • A scene now a distant memory. 37035 races past Chesterton Junction Signal Box with the 0836 Liverpool Street to Kings Lynn on 7th May 1979. The line to St Ives is in the foreground. The tarmac track used to lead to two railway cottages located in the apex of the junction.which were long gone when the photo was taken. The area to the right is now residential.
  • 47583 passes Chesterton Junction, Cambridge. The livery is Stratford's contribution to the royal wedding of Charles and Diana. Photo dated August 1981.
  • Wet day at Chesterton Junction. 47585 " County of Cambridgeshire " heads towards Cambridge on a Kings Lynn to Liverpool Street working in far from ideal lighting conditions.11th April 1981. The St Ives branch curves in from the left.
  • Once a very familiar engine in the Cambridge area, 08108 shunts at Chesterton Junction permanent way depot on 27th November 1978. Withdrawn in 1984, 08108 now resides at Rolvendon on The Kent and East Sussex Railway with its pre TOPS number D3174. After leaving BR it spent time at Dower Wood Grain Mill near Newmarket.
  • Chesterton Junction permanent way depot on 27th October 1978 with 08052 on shunting operations. This area is to be the site for a new station "Cambridge North"The line to St Ives is to the left. The route of the Fen Drayton sand train can be clearly seen.
  • The view north from the A14 bridge with the 1103 Norwich to Cambridge approaching. Milton Crossing cottage can be seen in the distance. The shot was achieved by parking up on the bridge. These days it would be rather dangerous with the vastly increased volume of traffic. Image dated 1st April 1979.

  • A two car Cravens unit approaches Milton Crossing near Cambridge forming the 1103 Cambridge to Kings Lynn. 13th January 1980.
  • Milton Crossing on 28th November 1978. This is a minor road leading down to the River Cam at Baits Bite Lock. In the summer months it is very busy and the crossing keeper must have had a very disruptive life opening and shutting the gates for traffic before the crossing became automatic. AHB.
  • 1029 Doncaster to Cambridge crosses a bleak landscape near Milton Crossing between Waterbeach and Chesterton Junction. 28th November 1978.
