  • The scene at Ely on the 17th August 1978 with a nice array of semaphores. The 0728 Harwich Parkeston Quay to Manchester Piccadilly is arriving behind 47017. On the right can be seen redundant coaching stock including some pullman cars, destined for Kings Scrapyard at Snailwell.

  • The River Ouse Bridge near Ely Dock Junction. This is a remote spot and  about a miles pleasant walk along the river bank from the main road. 47118 is accelerating away from the junction with "the boat train" aka 1515 Manchester Piccadilly to Harwich Parkeston Quay.   • The River Ouse Bridge at Ely (No 2235) An unknown Class 37 has just left Ely Dock Junction on 21st June 1981. The bridge was severely damaged by a derailed freight train on 22nd June 2007. The working involved was an EWS class 60, No:- 60068 hauling 6L58 Mount Sorrel (Leicestershire) to Chelmsford.   • Peak 45077 approaching Soham on the single line section from Ely Dock Junction. 20th January 1980.
  • The driver of the 0704 Leicester to Harwich Parkeston Quay drops the single line token for the Ely Dock to Soham section.  30th August 1979.
  • An unknown 31 on a  Peterborough to Parkeston Quay working drops the key token for the single line section from Ely Dock Junction at Soham during May 1981. At this point the track becomes double through to Chippenham Junction. Soham Signal Box is no longer in existence at this site. The original station and box were destroyed by an ammunition train exploding during the Second World War.
  • 37006 passes Soham Signal Box with a train load of cartics formimg the 1450 Parkeston to Bathgate. In the box, signalman Mauri. Bullman is giving 2 beats on the bell for train entering section to Ely Dock Junction. The line has been temporarly singled from here to Chippenham Junction.  27th August 1980

  • The second man on 47130 prepares to grab the single line token for the Soham to Chippenham Junction section during a period of engineering work on one of the tracks. Another age old custom rapidly disappearing from the railways today.  The working is the 1515 Manchester Piccadilly to Parkeston Quay.  20th September 1980.
