March/Peterborough to Spalding

The March to Spalding line closed on 27th November 1982. It was always an interesting line for the enthusiast especially on Summer Saturdays with hauled trains from the Midlands to/from Great Yarmouth and during the Spalding Flower Festival. Here are a few shots of the line in it's final years.

  • 31 meets 31.  31173 stands at platform 1 at March with the 0919 Manchester Piccadilly to Yarmouth and is about to be passed by 31236 on the Rockware Glass, Middleton Towers to Doncaster sand train.  28th July 1979.
  • A two car Cravens unit stands in the Spalding platform at March with a special. Wisbech to Cambridge. Wisbech and March Rail Action Committee.  23rd September 1978.
  • 25270/25056 stand at the now abandoned platform 1 at March with the 0835 Derby to Yarmouth.  ist August 1981.
  • 37090 arrives at March with the 0910 Leeds to Yarmouth on 28th July 1979.
  • 37007 passes March on a wet 8th July 1980 with the 1425 Parkeston to Bathgate cartics.
  • The 1128 Cambridge to Doncaster loads passengers at March on 28th July 1979.

  • A Swindon cross country unit was recorded leaving March on a Cambridge to Doncaster working and is about to pass under Norwood Road bridge. C 1977.
  • 08889 shunts ballast wagons at March Whitemoor Junction. The Wisbech branch is the single track line straight ahead. 28th July 1979
